The bartender was a surly fellow who wasn't afraid to start a fight.

- Treacherous
adj. dangerous and unstable
The journey was becoming treacherous,but they continued on regardless.

- Onset
n. the beginning or early stages
At the onset of her career as a lawyer, things were looking up.
